This is the traditional "heart" of the town. In the last century Fairs were held in this area and in the 18th century the centre was taken up by an impressive Bank building.

The shops which extend to the adjacent areas of Green Street, Townhead Street, Barn Street, Main Street and Waterside Street, include specialist butchers, bakers, a greengrocer, jewellers, a shoe shop, gift shops, dress shops, numerous florists as well as cafes and restaurants
